My Dishes

My Dishes is one of the first beats that actually sounds pretty good. I made this beat when I was like 16 years old. And believe me, a lot of beats I made at the time were sounding horrible. I was just starting out, practicing and experimenting a lot with making Hip-Hop beats and sampling from old jazz and soul songs. In the end, it really helped me finding my own sound and gaining skills in music production.

For this beat I used a technique of sampling the vocals apart from the instrumental elements. If you are familiar with producers like Kanye West or J dilla you should recognize this way of sampling (not avoiding the vocal parts from a soul sample). Often, I am looking for quit parts of a soul song to sample, but sometimes you’ll just get great results including them. See sample here: “The Look Of Love – Gladys Knight & The Pips”

Anyways, partly thanks to the arrival of this website, I have decided to renew many of these ‘forgotten’ beats so that you can enjoy listening to them. Besides, you may also hear the progress I’ve made over the past decade. In summary, My Dishes is an instrumental song with soul influences, old school hiphop drums and a catchy synth brass lead.
