Calmness

I remember this beat came down very quick. When I first heard the sample, I was instantly hooked. Certainly, I would make something great out of it. When I’m searching for samples in 70’s and 80’s music, I am often looking for the quite parts in a song. This gives me more room for my own creativity and input. Often when you sample parts including drums, percussion and vocals it will become difficult to create something new without recognizing the original song. That’s the opposite approach I used in this old school Hip-Hop instrumental.

I chopped the guitar and strings section and created a new composition with the musical elements. The drum pattern I put on top of it is inspired by 9^th Wonder, a well known Hip-Hop producer from the U.S.A. The reverb, delay and filtering effects accentuate the sense of space, freedom and peacefulness in this song.
